Explore the seductive world of tropical plants in Tacoma’s glittering Seymour Conservatory, bathed in looping electric cello by Gretchen Yanover and augmented reality light art by the Permaculture Lifestyle Institute over artwork by Mauricio Robalino, Lourdes Jackson and others. Play with blacklight on carnivorous plants, see the dome sparkle and feel the hope of a New Year.

NW Sinfonietta’s violinist (and my Different Drummer bandmate:) Brandon Vance is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning Scottish fiddler. Brandon and Concertmaster Denise Dillenbeck lead NW Sinfonietta strings in this program that traces the violin/fiddle from Scandinavia to the British Isles, across the Atlantic and down into the Appalachian range. Each year this December concert creates magical moments and memories during the holiday season. Bring the whole family!

Make a field trip, and stay the night in Leavenworth at Icicle Creek/Sleeping Lady if you can! Concerts Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

NW Sinfonietta--Cityscapes

Celebrate city life with NW Sinfonietta favorite Joel Fan and Artistic Partner and conductor Jeffery Meyer. Joel performs Ravel’s enchanting, jazz-influenced Piano Concerto in G Major, and joins the orchestra for a unique Tombeau de Couperin performance combining Ravel’s original, 6-movement piano suite with his 1919 orchestral version. Carlos Simon’s Graffiti is a Pacific Northwest premiere, and we are teaming up with Spaceworks Tacoma to film the creation of a new piece of public art inspired by Simon’s work, which will be screened during the performance. Aaron Copland’s exquisite, contemplative Quiet City featuring English horn, trumpet and strings rounds out this unforgettable program.

Participate in immersive art nights on Main Street, featuring a variety of local artists, makers, and performers. Visit the main stage for live music, purchase local art from vendors, and explore the creative arts through hands-on activities. The whole event runs from 6:00-9:00pm. I'll be performing at the event entrance.

From the Bellevue Downtown Association: "Previously known as the 6th Street Arts Fair, the BDA is proud to produce an outdoor market of 110+ juried sculptures, jewelry, home décor, wood and glasswork, fabrics and other local artwork. This year, we look forward to returning to our July dates as part of the award-winning Arts Fair Weekend alongside the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM) ARTSfair. Food trucks and live music ranging from folk to flamenco guitar (to electric cello, of course) will also be on-site." The whole event runs from 10:00am-5:00pm on Sunday.

I'm thrilled to be cello soloist for Damien Geter's Cantata for a More Hopeful Tomorrow, performing with Berkshire Choral. Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem is also on the program for this concert in beautiful Weill Hall at Sonoma State University.

Adults: $25, Youth 18 and under: $10, plus box office facility fees.

Electric Cello for Noir Black Noir ballet

Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center, 1105 Martin Luther King Junior Way, Tacoma, WA

I'm part of Tacoma Urban Performing Art Center's exciting new ballet, Noir Black Noir performed by Tupac students, Northwest Sinfonietta and internationally renowned guest artists. These new works were created by Black choreographers to music composed by Black classical composers from the 18th century through present day.

June 11 and 12 at 3:00 PM.
